Visiting Mwikali, a member of our weaving co-operative, she is such an inspiration working tirelessly weaving baskets & selling to support 7 children (4 her own).

Purchasing one of our baskets supports it’s makers and helps preserve an ancient craft tradition.

In Kenya sisal basket weaving ‘Kiondo’ has been a tradition handed down from mother to daughter for generations. It is customary for a Mother to gift a basket to their daughter on their wedding day. A new bride would then have a basket to go to the ‘Shamba’ (farm) or market to collect food for her new family.

We love being part of our basket journey. Spending time with our weavers and sharing stories.
